Who are we?
Unity Diner is a non-profit vegan restaurant and cocktail bar in the heart of East London. founded in 2018 by a group of close friends, including author and activist Ed Winters, also known as Earthling Ed.
From the beginning, Unity Diner has been built on a simple but powerful mission: to use the power of plants to change the way people think about vegan food, while helping to create direct, meaningful change for animals. One of Unity Diner’s original goals was to help open an animal sanctuary, and in 2021 that dream came to life with the founding of Surge Sanctuary.
Over the last five years, Surge Sanctuary has grown into an incredible safe haven for animals, providing care, protection and lifelong refuge to those who need it most. Unity Diner’s customers have played a huge role in that journey. Through weekly customer donations, the Unity community has helped Surge Sanctuary continue to thrive, proving that every meal shared at Unity can be part of something much bigger.
Unity Diner is more than a restaurant. It is a celebration of what vegan food can be, a direct way to support animals, and a reminder of what can happen when people come together for something they believe in.
Vegan for
the animals
Our aim is to show that vegan food can be bold, beautiful and full of flavour, made with love by a super friendly team in a space that feels welcoming to everyone.
Whether someone is a lifelong vegan, newly curious, or just hungry for something delicious, Unity has always been a place for people to come together over food that does good.
In 2025, Ed Winters stepped away from the organisation to focus on his other work and commitments. As one of Unity Diner’s original co-founders, Ed played an important role in helping bring the restaurant to life, and his impact remains part of Unity’s story. Today, Unity Diner continues under the care of its original founders, carrying forward the mission it was created for.
